An Inside Look at New Moon Costumes

MTV interviewed New Moon Costume Designer Tish Monaghan to discuss some of the wardrobe pieces from New Moon:

BEGINNING THE PROCESS
“There was already a particular look in place, so the first thing I did was find out from the studio and the director, Chris Weitz, if they were happy with the looks of the characters,” recalled costume designer Tish Monaghan. “Were there things they wanted changed? Once I got those instructions — there were only minor adjustments to be made.” Bella's presentation from “Twilight” was kept consistent. “[The studio and Chris] liked that she was a tomboy and that she was in earth tones and was a little bit out of place. So I picked up on all of those comments, and when I did all of my purchasing for her, I stayed more or less in that world unless there was something specific that was required in the script.”

ROBED AND DANGEROUS
If you're wondering where the black shirt went that Robert was slowly unbuttoning to reveal his six-pack vampire self to the crowd in Italy (in the movie, we see him put on a red robe after his attempts are thwarted by Bella, but, uh, did he just dump his acutal shirt on the ground?), it's in the black hole pf movie making. "When the script was originally set, Edward was supposed to be captured outside by Demetri and Felix — that’s why he is thrown a red robe," Tish explains. "[But], by the time they decided he was instead going to be captured inside, we had already filmed the inside scenes."

THE ENCHANTED FOREST
“These were the first costumes that I designed,” Tish recalls of the sequence in which we see future Bella as a vampire running with Edward in the woods. “The fantasy was this sort of post-wedding feeling where they were hunting in these light-colored outfits through the dark forest. I didn’t want them in anything practical.” So, she put Robert in some pretty high-end threads: a vest from Loden Dager, a Club Monaco linen shirt, Orme in Portofino khakis and Magnanni shoes (the same ones he wears with the grey suit throughout the movie). For Bella, Tish aimed for sweet and girly, while Chris Weitz envisioned a look from Greek mythology: Diana the Huntress. The result? “We made that silk chiffon over silk organza dress. It was nice to see her in something feminine.”

Melissa Rosenberg on Harry Clearwater's Death

***Spoiler Alert***

Wait...who am I kidding?!?! You've all seen New Moon!

Nevermind. Here is a great clip with Melissa Rosenberg that explains how Harry Clearwater's death was written in New Moon.

Source: MTV

So what did you think about how Melissa wrote Harry's death? Does it disappoint you that this may not be Stephenie Meyer envisioned it? Or do you think it was appropriate for the film version?

Chris Weitz on the New Moon DVD

Chris reveals what it is that we can expect from the New Moon dvd

Among this bonus footage could be several moments MTV knows were shot but did not make the final "New Moon" cut, including:

» A scene with Rachelle Lefevre as Victoria driving to Forks in a car, snacking on a dead human. It was one of the final moments the actress filmed as the nomadic vampire.

» A scene with the human characters eating Burger King.

» Another scene with the humans, this time with Justin Chon and Michael Welch expressing jealousy over Edward's car.

» More scenes with the Volturi in Italy.

» An extended cut of the scene where Mike Newton quotes Shakespeare to Bella in the Forks High parking lot; in it, he does a Marlon Brando impersonation.

» Scenes alluding to the ongoing breakup between Newton and Anna Kendrick's Jessica.

"When I made the film, I wanted it to arrive at a certain kind of flow and cadence," Weitz said of why he had to leave so many scenes on the cutting-room floor but hopes to restore many for the DVD. "[They would have affected] how the movie worked, and they didn't completely fit. But there'll be some groovy stuff in [the DVD].

Sweet Dreams...

These Sweet Dreams are brought to you by Rob and Honolulu Girl.

Vanity Fair...the magazine outtakes that keep on giving....

Entertainment Weekly TEAM covers

How awesome are these new Entertainment Weekly covers? The December 4th issues are on newstands NOW!

Here is an excerpt:

"Call it battle of the abs. Or the teen screams heard round the world. Either way, Summit Entertainment’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon did more business on its opening weekend than any other movie this year. Now that it’s the biggest fall opening ever at $142.8 million and its opening day number of $72.7 million outgrossed The Dark Knight’s first-day figure, Hollywood should finally accept that women drive the box office in a big way."

Honolulu Girl does it again! Here is a video that she made with some more Vanity Fair outtakes.

Honolulu Girl we <3 you!Don't forget to check out her blog True Blood Twilight!

New Moon's Record Setting Opening Weekend

It's not like we are surprised...but New Moon had a record breaking weekend!

While most reports are stating that New Moon had an opening weekend of $140.7 million The Associated Press is reporting that the films actual total is $142.8 million.

The Hollywood Reporter stated:

"Summit Entertainment’s vampire-romance sequel “ The Twilight Saga: New Moon” rung up a record $72.7 million in opening-day boxoffice on Friday, easily topping domestic rankings.

That bested a previous single-day boxoffice mark of $67.2 million, set by Warner Bros.’ Batman sequel “The Dark Knight” in July 2008.The first-day tally for “New Moon” included $26.3 million in boxoffice from a total 3,514 performances at 12:01 a.m. Friday, which set a record for witching-hour coin.

Consensus pre-release forecasts put the likely first-weekend tally for “New Moon” at $85 million-plus. Not even a meteoric burnout on Saturday and Sunday would keep the largely female-fueled film from soaring well past those projections.

“Dark Knight” holds the record for the biggest opening ever, at $158.4 million (more here on decade's top grossing films)."

Twilighters Beware!

Watch out Twilighters, there are scammers out there trying to take advantage of us!

Eonline has posted an article about viruses and malware threats. Here is an excerpt:

"Most of the malicious sites promise content that simply doesn't exist, whether it's an interview with the stars or the "full movie."

A search for information on author Stephenie Meyer brings up a rather curious result. The scribe appeared on Oprah recently and swore it was the only press she would be doing on the film's second installment. Alas, "365multimedia.com" describes an interview in which she discusses Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in addition to her book. Don't click on it!
According to security-software company PC Tools, the link will redirect you to a window claiming you are infected with malware and urging you to download a phony antivirus software product that requires payment via credit card. The rest, as you can imagine, is a nightmarish history at the hands of cyberjerks.

"Full movie" scams work similarly. When you click to watch, it says you need to install the player. Approving this download is equivalent to accepting malware. "

Thanks to Eonline for warning us!

How Twilight Should Have Ended

Check out this funny cartoon about how Twilight SHOULD have ended!

Hehe this is so funny! I love how Twilighters have such a great sense of humor! Thanks MTV!

TIME Interviews Rob

Here is an excerpt of TIME's interview with Rob:

If they had cast anyone else as Edward, would the franchise have been as successful as it is today?

I honestly don't know. No matter how famous I get as an individual, it's always evened — or even surpassed — by the fame of Edward Cullen. That's got to mean something. I don't mind that. That's just the way it is.

A whole generation will remember you as Edward. You're a generational crush. Is that hard to live up to or difficult to accept?

There's no living up to it. I think the major fear is just fighting too hard against it. Most people who have a downfall from a like situation is when they do try to fight, and fight and fight: I'm not this teenybopper person, blah, blah, blah. Even if a lot of people see me and the franchise as like that, I never have, at any point. But I don't feel the need to fight against it. I've never tried to pander to any kind of audience. I've tried to make the films as intelligent and uncheesy as you could. And I've tried to make them the best they can be. I've never thought about it any other way. So I hope that pays off.

You can read the entire article HERE.

Jacob's Quileute line in New Moon

Our mission 808twilighters should you choose to accept

What exactly is Jacob telling Bella in Quileute?

Here is the Quileute Nation site, where they have recordings of sayings:
under 'Culture', then 'Language', you will see it near the bottom. The alphabet is given as well as 4 sets of sayings and 4 notebook recordings.

OK 808Twilighters....let's crack this one!

Taylor Lautner did an interview on MTV: "I don't want to tell you what I'm saying," he teased, insisting that the line of dialogue is meant to be an Easter egg that only the most hard-core "Twilight" fans will be able to crack. "That would defeat the whole purpose!"

Vanity Fair Interviews Nikki Reed

Here is an excerpt of an article where Vanity Fair Interviews Nikki Reed.

Rosalie's part continues to grow with each film. What scenes—out of the three films thus far—have been your favorites to shoot and why?

I just wrapped Eclipse yesterday and the last scene we shot is probably my favorite thus far. I finally got to tell my story, in a very gentle yet elaborate way.

What was it like working with Chris Weitz on New Moon and David Slade on Eclipse?

It’s challenging because all of the directors have a different perspective and a different approach. It was great working with David because he really took the time to sit down with me and go over every moment. Chris is an amazing man, but unfortunately we didn't have that much to do together as the Cullens are only in a few scenes in New Moon. David is quite a character and tons of fun to work with. Both men had a very strong vision, which is essential.

Vanity Fair Interviews Elizabeth Reaser

Here is an excerpt of Vanity Fair's interview with Elizabeth Reaser.

What has it been like working with different directors on the same character?

I like it. I think part of the fun of being an actor is getting to work with different directors and seeing their take on it, what they’re passionate about. They all have different ideas about your character. David [Slade] has a very interesting take on Esme. He’s really passionate about her, that she’s not just this nice, sweet gal; that she’s still a vampire and she’s still tearing up mountain lions in the middle of the night and drinking their blood. She’s still the wild beast in a way. It’s fun to think about that aspect of her character.

What did you do to prepare for Esme? How do you still work to develop her character?

When you have the material [of the books] there’s so much already on the page from Stephenie’s imagination. Most of it came from that; she’s got so much back-story. There’s so much on the Internet actually, which I found really interesting because they [the Twilight bloggers] write about your character, they write about all of our characters. I found it really fascinating—their take on it. Even on You Tube, they’ll have some kind of report on Esme or Carlisle and their relationship and it’s just been really interesting.

You can see the full article here.

I can't wait to read the interviews from the rest of the Twilight ladies!

You Gotta Love "The Finger"

I love the absolute bitch in Kristen Stewart. She's not afraid to tell it like it is!

Read article from EW:

Kristen Stewart, the 19-year-old star of the Twilight franchise, knows that she can come across as sullen and self-conscious in the public eye. But during an exclusive EW roundtable in Vancouver, Canada, where the cast was prepping for their last week of the Eclipse shoot and then the immediate onslaught of publicity for the November 20th release of New Moon, Stewart was funny, quick and outspoken in a wide-ranging conversation with co-stars Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson.

Asked about the endless rumors of her supposed off-screen romance with Pattinson, for instance, Stewart got nicely fired up. “I probably would’ve answered it if people hadn’t made such a big deal about it,” she said. “But I’m not going to give the fiending an answer. I know that people are really funny about ‘Well, you chose to be an actor, why don’t you just f—ing give your whole life away?! Can I have your firstborn child?’”

Pattinson himself, who clearly loathes confrontation, tried to softly interject with philosophical statements about the need for an actor to hold onto his individuality. But Stewart cut him off. “I’ve thought about this a lot,” she said. “There’s no answer that’s not going to tip you one way or the other. Think about every hypothetical situation: ‘Okay, we are. We aren’t. I’m a lesbian.’  I’m just trying to keep something,” she said. “If people started asking me if I was dating Taylor, I’d be like ‘F— off!’ I would answer the exact same way.” Without missing a beat, Pattinson looked at Lautner, promising “Me too.”

FEARnet Interview with Melissa Rosenberg

Here is a really great interview with Melissa Reosenberg, an excerpt is below but it is great...read the whole thing!

You’ve added a few scenes to New Moon that weren’t in the book, like the one where Jacob gives Bella a gift of a dream catcher. Can you tell us about that?

Actually, I got the idea from a writer friend of mine. I was searching around for that moment... You had to establish the relationship between Bella and Jacob; he can give her gifts and Edward can’t. The sort of easy friendship with the two of them, and yet also, show that Jacob actually has feelings for her. He sort of casually presents the dream catcher, but really he’s shopped around for it for quite a while. I wanted it to be something that was special to him and his culture, and it was so thematic to Bella; the movie is laden with her dreams. Her dream life is a very rich part of the film. So thematically, it really blended well. I thank my friend for coming up with that.

Fans want to know: Did the proposal scene make it into New Moon?

The proposal comes into the end of New Moon, and that is the first proposal. Absolutely in Eclipse, the proposal when they’re on the bed, yes -- to me, that was a quintessential scene from the book. When Edward gets on his knees, with his mother’s ring, and she says yes -- that was one of the most romantic scenes that Stephenie wrote in all four books.

Vanity Fair Interviews

It seems like Vanity Fair is determined to interview every cast member of New Moon!

Here is an excerpt of their interview with Peter Facinelli:

As the patriarch of the Cullen clan, have you assumed a similar fatherly role with the cast?

You know, on Twilight I feel like they looked to me as the father figure, but because we became so close, I’m more of an older brother now.

How does New Moon differ from Twilight?

You know, Twilight was an independent movie. It was shot very documentary style, the way Catherine [Hardwicke, Twilight’s director] shoots. It has a rawness to it, which I think is nice. New Moon’s a little bit crisper, it has a little bit more of a studio feel, but it still has that edge.

How do the Cullens rev each other up before shooting a scene?

We really have everything down. We dissect it through rehearsals before we go about it. When we’re on set, we kind of joke around, and when we’re rehearsing, we change up the scenes and make each other laugh. We lighten up the mood. The blooper reel is going to be amazing on New Moon.

Is there going to be a blooper reel?
Hopefully. They probably have more material for the blooper reel than they have movie material. (Laughs)

Have you seen New Moon yet?

Yeah, I love it. Chris Weitz did an amazing job, and I love the werewolves. There’s so much action, and I’m an action junkie, so the wolves really do a great job. Taylor [Lautner] is amazing. He’s a movie star. Fans are going to see this over and over again because of what he brings to the movie.
